Her Life

Created by Shirley 16 years ago
Mum was the youngest of 3. She was born from parents who came here from Russia and settled in Mile End in London. Her father worked at the docks as a grain supervisor. Her mother stayed at home to bring up her children. During the second world war they were bombed out and moved to kent for a while. Mum worked first in a shop then in a cotton mill. She met my father after she moved from London to Dundee with her father, after her mothers death. My parents settled in Glasgow and had the five of us but divorced when I was 19. She never had an easy life unfortunately, something I will always regret, as I wished so much I could afford for her to have a better life but never had the money. She lived the last 17 years in an apartment in London which was hard for her as she had problems with the stairs and in the last year of her life apart from going out to hospital appointments or when we went down for a visit and would take her out or my brother would pop round and take her to his, she never went out. I just wish I could have helped her move into a bungalow as she loved flowers and so could have had a garden to enjoy them.
